You will have a key role in securing profitable nickel raw materials for Boliden’s nickel smelter and marketing of nickel matte and other intermediates reaching the vision of Boliden Smelters: to be the industry leader in terms of green transition metals and profitability.

 

Key responsibilities:

The Purchasing Manager Nickel Concentrates is a member of the nickel raw materials purchase- and intermediates sales team assisting the Manager Nickel. Raw materials are purchased from mining companies mainly in the form of concentrates and nickel- and other intermediates are sold to refineries both on long-term and spot basis.

 

You will report to the Manager Nickel and communicate with Boliden’s smelters, contract coordination, other internal stakeholders and both internal and external suppliers and customers. The position is based in Stockholm but travelling is required for the assignment.

 

As part of the Nickel Raw Materials & Intermediates team, your work responsibilities will cover many areas:

 

• Monitor, follow up and manage daily contract execution, logistics and support processes.

• Support the contract coordination team continuously. Create and adjust contracts in the IT-system.

• Evaluate suppliers and customers performance; ESG, GHG emissions etc.

• Develop in-depth knowledge on nickel market and actively seek market information and continuously update database on existing nickel mines and nickel mining projects. Document visit reports, minutes of conversations and meetings with existing and potential suppliers and customers

• Explore and identify the market for new raw material opportunities and initiate development of our smelters’ capabilities by creating business cases.

• Together with the Manager Nickel monitor and build a raw material sourcing plan and matte sales plan based on profitability, reliability and technical suitability. Optimize the raw materials supply and matte sales to maximize profitability long-term for Boliden Smelters and Boliden Group.

• Maintain a close dialogue and an excellent working relationship with the Boliden Harjavalta nickel smelter including the laboratory and sampling department. Develop a solid understanding of the smelter’s capabilities and nickel matte customers.

• Follow-up on nickel raw materials supply and intermediate sales budget.

• Actively plan shipments with suppliers/customers and adjust shipment- and consumption plan together with the smelter when necessary.

• Participate in the internal Sales & Operations Planning process.

• Development of our processes, routines and tools.

• Participate in negotiations of short and long term off-take agreements. Establish contacts with existing and potential suppliers and customers.

• Protect the health and safety for self and others as well as the environment.

 

Qualifications

For this role we are looking for a person with strong analytic skills, who can grasp the meaning of plans, facilitates and conducts multifaceted, extended negotiations for the purchase of complex, high-value, multi-year contracts. As a person you need to be pro-active and cooperative to work well with others in cross-functional teams.

 

• The assignment requires education qualifications similar to MSc level in Engineering or Economics.

• Operational and/or commercial experience from a mining or smelting production environment is preferred.

• Knowledge and experience from geology, exploration, mining including ESG aspects are a merit.

• Experience of understanding metal markets and its dynamics and create relevant strategies.

• Proven skills in performing business calculations are an essential requirement, along with excellent verbal and written command of the English language. Other languages are a merit.

• We seek a person who has excellent social skills: builds strong relationships, convinces and motivates.

• The target candidate takes initiative to develop its position and is result oriented. The person needs to be systematic and able to compile the bigger picture.

• Experience in contract reading and writing.

• Presentation skills.

Terms of employment

The position involves a fulltime employment. Salaries at Boliden are determined individually; therefore, please indicate your requested salary. Start date as soon as possible.
